Two boiler quotes can look similar while covering quite different work. Compare the proposed installation line by line before deciding. The lowest headline price is only useful when you know what is included.
Which boiler is being quoted?
Ask for the manufacturer and exact model, rather than just a brand name. Discuss the property and how your household uses heating and hot water. If one quote recommends a different arrangement from another, ask why. A recommendation should relate to your requirements, not simply the boiler currently being promoted.
What work is included?
Check the allowance for removing the existing boiler, installation labour, pipework changes, controls and any work to the wider heating system. Ask whether disposal is included. If the boiler is moving, discuss the effect on the surrounding room and whether decorating or other finishing work is outside the quotation.
Are the totals comparable?
Check VAT, assessment fees and any optional items. Ask how unexpected work would be explained and authorised. A short written list of exclusions is more useful than guessing what “standard installation” means. If a quote is provisional, establish what needs checking before the final price can be confirmed.
What happens on installation day?
Discuss access, parking and the expected interruption to heating or hot water. Tell the installer about anyone in the household whose needs affect the timing. Confirm who will be present to let the engineer in and receive the handover. Dates should be agreed directly rather than inferred from an initial enquiry.
What will you receive afterwards?
Ask about operating instructions, documentation and the process for product registration. Read the actual warranty terms and any servicing conditions, including who to contact if a problem arises. Keep the quotation and handover documents together. They provide a useful record when arranging future work or comparing later repair options.
