A little preparation helps a plumber understand the job and reach the work area. You do not need to dismantle fittings or attempt a repair before the appointment. Concentrate on access and the information you can provide.
Confirm the job before the visit
Check that the booking describes the work you need. If the problem has changed since you first called, let the plumber know. A dripping tap that has started leaking into a cupboard is different from the original enquiry. Tell UKHS about any additional jobs rather than assuming they can all be fitted into the same appointment.
Make the work area accessible
Move loose belongings from the area where the engineer needs to work, where you can do so safely. Clear a route through the room and keep pets away from the workspace. Do not move heavy appliances, remove fixed panels or disturb pipework. If access is difficult, explain that in advance.
Have useful information nearby
Keep any relevant installation instructions, product details or previous invoices to hand. If you bought a replacement fitting, leave it in its packaging with its parts and instructions together. Explain when the problem occurs and whether another contractor has already investigated it.
Plan access to the property
Provide the correct contact number and postcode. Mention entry codes, parking restrictions or a different person who will be meeting the engineer. For a rental property, agree the access arrangements with the relevant people before confirming the visit. Do not include entry codes in public comments or reviews.
Leave time for a handover
Ask what was done, whether further work is needed and how any new fitting operates. Confirm what is included in the invoice and keep the paperwork. If something remains unresolved, agree how it will be followed up. These questions are easier to cover before the engineer leaves than several days later.
