Boiler care

What information helps with a boiler repair enquiry?

Help UKHS understand a boiler fault by supplying the symptoms, visible fault message, appliance details and property postcode.

At a glance

Help UKHS understand a boiler fault by supplying the symptoms, visible fault message, appliance details and property postcode.

You do not need to know why a boiler has stopped working before asking for help. A clear account of the symptoms is more useful than a guessed diagnosis. Start with what has changed and when you first noticed it.

Explain the effect on your home

Say whether heating, hot water or both are affected. If the problem is intermittent, describe when it happens and how long it lasts. Mention unusual behaviour you have noticed without trying to reproduce it. Do not keep operating an appliance simply to demonstrate a fault.

Record visible messages accurately

Write down any message or code shown on the display. Include the boiler make and model if you can identify them from visible information or existing paperwork. Codes can mean different things on different appliances, so the code alone may not explain the fault. Leave covers and gas components untouched.

Mention recent work

Tell the engineer about a recent service, repair or change to the heating controls. Keep any related invoice or report available. Describe the sequence of events without assuming the previous work caused the problem. This helps the engineer decide what needs investigating.

Give the booking details

Include the property postcode, a telephone number and who can provide access. If the boiler is inside a cupboard or in a difficult location, mention it. Say if the property is rented and who is authorising the work. UKHS can then discuss coverage and appointment options around Leigh.

Understand the next step

An enquiry does not establish the cause or reserve a repair slot. Ask whether an assessment is required, what it costs and how a repair would be quoted. Parts availability and the condition of the appliance may affect the options. Keep the agreed scope in writing and ask before arranging any separate work yourself.
